While cleaning the chicken coop today Tessa found a way to practice her herding skills. She would circle the pen and get to the opposite side of the pen the door is on. Then the chickens would run toward the door to escape and she'd dart to the other side and block the door to hold them in place.
We need to get some more lessons and training in this week to get her further along and release some energy.
My wife and I are happy to be a part of the family farm. I've always enjoyed the loyalty and companionship from good dogs and have taken up the training of herding dogs the past few years. I learn so much from the Australian Shepherds I've been with, and hope they enjoy their time with us as much as we love them.
