Fresh, Backyard Mushrooms
Cut up a fallen oak log into 3-5 foot lengths, add some mushroom spores, and you get a tastey crop of shrooms for years.
The shitake mushrooms harvested to the right tasted great. We harvest and eat fresh or dry them and use them for later.
It does help to live in the Pacific Northwest with lots of "moisture." Otherwise, you do have to soak the logs often and keep them moist.
